  As we continue our discussion about the dimensions of health, the next dimension that we will cover is mental wellness. Mental wellness is defined as “a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community".  Recall, wellness can be characterized by 6 dimensions: In recent times, we have seen how world events have placed a toll on our mental wellness. The COVID-19 pandemic is a example of such an event. Many of us are facing challenges that can be stressful, overwhelming, and cause strong emotions in adults and children. Many feel isolated and lonely and this can increase stress and anxiety. Taking care of ourselves is very important.  But, what is wellness? The Global Wellness Institute defines wellness as the active pursuit of activities, choices and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health.  Wellness can be characterized by 6 dimensions: Physical:  A healthy body through exercise, nutrition, sleep, preventive health measures, etc. Mental:  Engagement with the world through learning, problem-solving, creativity, etc. Emotional:  Being in touch with, aware of, accepting of, and able to express one’s feelings (and those of others). Spiritual:  Our search for meaning and purpose in human existence. Social:  Connecting with, interacting with, and contributing to other people and our communities. Environmental:  A healthy physical environment free of hazards; awareness of the role we play in bettering rather than denigrating the natural environment. New Year, New Mindset
