Join us on our Wellness Journey!

Taking care of ourselves is very important.  But, what is wellness? The Global Wellness Institute defines wellness as the active pursuit of activities, choices and lifestyles that lead to a state of holistic health.

Wellness can be characterized by 6 dimensions:

  • Physical: A healthy body through exercise, nutrition, sleep, preventive health measures, etc.
  • Mental: Engagement with the world through learning, problem-solving, creativity, etc.
  • Emotional: Being in touch with, aware of, accepting of, and able to express one’s feelings (and those of others).
  • Spiritual: Our search for meaning and purpose in human existence.
  • Social: Connecting with, interacting with, and contributing to other people and our communities.
  • Environmental: A healthy physical environment free of hazards; awareness of the role we play in bettering rather than denigrating the natural environment.
All of these dimensions are important.  We can focus proactively on prevention and maximizing our vitality. We should adopt attitudes and lifestyles that prevent disease, improve health, and enhance our quality of life and sense of wellbeing. We should be advocates for our own health and wellness by being  proactive and taking as many preventive measures as we can. This can start with education.

Share the Wealth - The Power of One:
Over the coming months, we will share information about one of the dimensions of wellness.  After we share about each dimension, we'd like you to share in 100 words or less how you or your family have taken one step towards improving that dimension of wellness in your life. You will have 30 days to submit your entry. Entries will be shared in a special wellness newsletter so we can inspire and encourage each other. Remember, change starts with one step.  It is critical to remember that setbacks and failures are also a part of the process to get better in anything. The bible says its okay to forget what is behind and strain towards what is ahead. We can learn from each others failures and setbacks.

Physical Dimension:
Lets spend a little time looking at the physical preventive measures.  You don't have to break the bank to get started making changes that have a positive impact on your physical health.
